The mission of the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southeast GeoReadiness Center (GRC) is to deliver, maintain, and provide access to authoritative geospatial data to improve situational awareness and strengthen decision-making at Navy shore and expeditionary installations. Over the years, Axim has supported numerous business objectives at GRC to help them meet their mission. Among them was improving data quality to meet Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness (FIAR) by working towards a 1:1 relationship between the Real Property database of record and features stored in the GRC’s enterprise GIS database. Axim also worked to maintain and manage the ArcServer map services and train users on the interactive geospatial data viewer environment known as the GeoReadiness Explorer (GRX).
To accomplish these objectives and distribute data for use, the Axim team created and published standard map products such as Installation Base Maps and Aerial Imagery. Our team also fulfilled custom Map & Data Requests to the GRC to assist with specific projects, initiatives, planning, or other activities on or surrounding the Navy installation. Finally, our team supported the implementation of an sUAS/drone program in 2015 with commercial drone hardware such as Gatewing. The goal of the program was to provide the capability for in-house sUAS/drone deployment and data collection. That program has flourished in the following years to now be fully supported by Navy staff and hardware. Our GIS personnel are available for Emergency Response Teams during natural disasters with ready-to-use products.
Working together with our client, we successfully delivered the following:
We provide fast, competent, standardized updates to map services and GRX. Our team provides life-cycle map creation ability on-site at each main installation (gather requirements, map layout, creation, review, revisions, review, print) leveraging custom layer files for representation of GIS data layers (environmental data, noise studies, planning layers, utilities, etc.).
Today, the Southeast GeoReadiness Center is one of the leading regions in NAVFAC in real property audit compliance. Our team has increased visibility and usage of the Southeast GRC for project work, map requests, data validation, deliverable standards, etc. We have helped improve confidence in the on-site staffing model through strong support. These successes have been demonstrated by NAVFAC kudos of on-site personnel comments sent to SE GRC, HQ GRC, and Asset Management leadership. We’re grateful for our partnership with NAVFAC SE and humbled to be entrusted to help move this important mission forward.
