Arlington National Cemetery, our nation's most well-known military cemetery, is a national cemetery under the jurisdiction of the Department of the Army. The primary mission of Arlington National Cemetery is to function as the nation's premier military cemetery honoring men and women who served in the Armed Forces. In this regard, the cemetery routinely performs 25 to 30 funeral services each day.
The primary objective of the IGI&S Arlington National Cemetery task order was to establish a baseline IGI&S capability to support Arlington National Cemetery Operations. Specifically, our team provides data collection capabilities. Over the course of several months, we used Trimble GeoXH handheld GPS units to collect over 250,000 point locations of grave markers across the 624-acre cemetery. In addition, over 200,000 grave plots were digitized from source PDF maps. The final data was loaded into the Army's enterprise system, Army Mapper, and is used for daily cemetery operations.
